It’s All Coming Together

After a couple months of waiting, we are really close to publication of the first annual Eagle Firefighter Calendar.  We received some great pub in the Idaho Statesman the other day and that has helped generate a lot of interest in the calendar.  Came up with an idea for generating some buzz, we created a facebook page for the calendar, allowing people to “become fans” of the page, those who do will be treated to a special sneak preview of the final images that will be used in the calendar.

The Joy of Photographing Joy

September 14th, 2008

So I got through yesterday which was a day that I have long dreamed about, as well as long dreaded. The first obligatory visit to see “The Mouse”. As the event got closer I had visions of tens of thousands of screaming children, lines for an hour to go on a 3 minute trip into fantasy land, and…me… up against the wall, hands behind my back, and a guy in a mouse costume just pillaging my wallet.

While of course all those things did indeed happen, the one thing I didn’t expect to happen was that my little guy would have the absolute time of his life, and I was there to photograph it. That was quite a treat. Of all the rides we went on, all the extraordinary, over the top effort that went into making them, didn’t matter, the ride that gave him a smile that I have never seen in him was the tea cups.

Freaking tea cups. Not Pirates of the Caribbean, not even the jungle cruise. The tea cups that spin around. I wasn’t sure we’d get him out of there. Watching him spin around and around with my wife, watching his mouth agape, and hearing that little Alex laugh he does as they orbited was just a dream fullfilled for me. Thanks Walt, good show Chap.

All said, you know it was a good day when he falls asleep in your arms, his mickey ears dangling from the stroller and not a word is said as you walk back to the hotel, leaving fantasy land behind for another day.
